Memorial Day

This weekend seems like the perfect time to begin this blog.  We have been keeping the newest member of our family somewhat of a secret for a couple of months, but it's time we start sharing her adventures.  Gypsea has already made quite a few trips to the Bakersfield National Cemetery and although it never gets any easier to venture to this destination, we feel engulfed in peace and are comforted by others each time we arrive.

Today my mom and I paid tribute to those who severed our country by attending a Memorial Day Service at the BNC.  The keynote speaker was an Army Veteran who concluded his speech by paraphrasing the ending to the poem "Out, Out-" by Robert Frost...

And then - the watcher at his pulse took a fright.

No one believed. They listened to his heart.

Little - less - nothing! - and that ended it.

No more to build on there. And they, since they

Were not the one dead, turned to their affairs.

So as difficult as each day may be, today was a reminder that we must go about our "affairs" as joyously as possible in order to make it worth wild for those who have sacrificed and given us freedom.  It is so difficult to continue on when a loss has occurred, but we hold the ones we love in our hearts and continue on until we meet them again.  Gyspea will make sure we have awesome stories to share once we are all reunited together again in Paradise.
